About the Photographer
Hi. I like to know who I am working with and I am sure you do too, so I thought I’d tell you a little bit about myself so you can get to know me. I have to warn you though, I ramble alot!
My name is Melissa Richardson and I grew up in Utah in a big family as one of six children. My mom would tell you that while I was her only girl, I led my brothers into as much trouble as they led me into. Thanks to us she has some grey hair and more than a few stories to tell.
Part way through my freshman year of college I discovered that I could get paid to learn Chinese and live in Monterey, CA, while learning it and so I joined the Army; this still amuses friends and family because I am a *tiny* bit headstrong and opinionated. I spent 10 years in the service and am grateful for all the opportunities the Army provided me.
I love to play soccer, ski, rock climb, scuba dive, and I LOVE to dance–latin, ballroom, and swing especially–and it has been way too long since I’ve been able to do any of those regularly. I love learning new things, traveling and seeing new places, and when I go home I love to torture my little brother by tickling him until he can’t do anything but squirm and beg for mercy. I love to read and am a total dork.
I have always felt driven to create things and have attempted to do so over the years with varying degrees of success in every medium I could get my hands on. I have tried everything from pottery to poetry and crafts to carpentry (I love my power tools) and still enjoy doing those things on occasion. I am a mother to four wonderful children, and like so many photographers that I know, motherhood was my first stepping stone towards becoming a photographer. After I had my first child, I felt compelled to try and capture all her funny faces and milestone moments as she grew and I was introduced to the world of photography. I loved knowing that I could keep all those moments that meant so much to me and preserve them so they were easily remembered.
When my daughter was only a few months old my husband saw me eyeing a friends newly purchased DSLR camera and surprised me that year with my own DSLR and everything needed to get started for Christmas and I was hooked. I have been obsessed with all things photography ever since and have read and studied everything I could get my hands. As I grew in the art I found myself wanting to take pictures of complete strangers and to help friends and family record their moments too. It seemed a natural extension, after I got out of the Army, to open Moments Remembered Photography so I could share my passion for photography by helping other people remember their moments, big and small alike, and preserve them for future generations.
I would be honored if you would give me the opportunity to help you make sure that your moments are remembered too.
